"Slow down and notice what thoughts come up."
~my yoga teacher
The yoga class I take on Fridays isn't one of my favorites.
OK. I dread it.
It's hard – like 'your muscles are shaking the entire class' hard.
The flow of her class is really slow. We hold the poses – FOREVER. And as she guides us through each pose, she says things like "slow down and see what thoughts come up." Followed by an audible breath
– a slow one, of course.
And yes, I have LOTS of thoughts. Most of which include a bunch of these *&#%$! However, now and again, I think, "I can do this. I can do hard things."
And somehow I get through the pose.
I am getting stronger. And so week after week, I continue to go to class and curse, um, I mean, breathe.
This past week, it struck me in class that this must be how YOU feel when you slow down - to set up systems, to train a new team member, to allow someone else to do 'the thing' in one hour when you know you can do it in ten minutes.
Slowing down can be excruciating.
Up to this point, it was only you running the show, so there was no need to slow down. But now you are relying on other people to do things you used to do.
In order for your business to continue to grow, you need to put systems in place so that they are repeatable and scalable. And then, you need to show your team how to follow those systems. Teach them. Let them try it and fail and try again.
If you pay attention to your thoughts as you go through this process, you may be thinking things like "OMG, it would be so much easier if I did it myself."
BUT you also might notice, "I know taking this time to show my team what to do is going to help my business grow. This is important, and I can do this."
Slowing down is where growth happens – new muscles are built – new skills are developed.
Your business grows.
I know you can do this because YOU are someone who knows how to do hard things.
Don't forget to breathe.
