Got 2020 Vision?

Dec 03, 2019

A coaching colleague of mine was telling me about the '2020 Vision' workshop she recently held for her clients.

OMG, she's so clever!

Get it? 2020 Vision.

I love it!

Yes, my friends, it is THAT time of the year.  We are now in the last month of the year and DECADE

Time to get planning.

As you set goals for the upcoming year, it is also the perfect time to revisit the vision statement you set for your business to make sure it is still relevant.

Are you thinking? Vision? What VISION?

Don’t panic.  Nothing has gone wrong.

If you don’t have a vision statement for your business, you don’t need to pack up and go home.

Just write one now.

Listen, I only just got clear on my vision this past month.

As I moved through this past year, I allowed myself to operate without a clear vision for my business because I couldn't see where I was headed.  See what I did there? :-)

When I started, I had an idea of what my business would look like, but it was more important for me just to get started and figure it out along the way.

A vision statement seemed like a lot of pressure at the time.  I was afraid my perfectionist mode was going to kick in.  It would be a year later, and I would be reading someone else’s blog on 2020 vision rather than my own.

Not sure where to start?  Keep it simple. Make it one sentence focused on what YOU will do. Your vision statement is the big goal for your business. It answers the following questions:

What is the purpose of your business?

What will you DO? What will you CREATE?  How will you SHOW UP? How much money will you MAKE?

Dedicate time in your schedule to focus on your vision statement.

Think about last year.  What did you accomplish?  How did you serve your clients? What worked? What didn't work?

Now think about the upcoming year.  Dream a little...no dream BIG!

Pull out a sheet of paper and brainstorm.  I find taking pen to paper helps me get clear on what is floating around in my brain.

Remember why you started your business (flashback to last week's blog).  Get excited about your future business.  Get excited about how you will serve your clients.  Get excited about who YOU ARE as a leader and a business owner. Get excited about the money you are going to make.

Feels good, doesn't it?

Take a stab at a couple of versions and settle on the one that feels the best to you at this moment.

And remember, perfectionism is not needed.  You can always change it next year...during your 2021 vision planning session (hmmm...it just doesn't have the same ring to it!)
